Open-Hearted Sharing by Mr Joel #INSPIRATION
“The Drinking Market” has been a dream since i was 15. I wasn’t a smart kid in school and i knew the only easy was to work. So i started my career as a cook in a now defunct western restaurant and i realised that i really enjoyed the time creating things from scratch. Since then, i have never turned back. After my degree, i worked all my way from a management trainee to a sommelier and a Director of Operations; and basically i “climbed” the corporate ladder like any ordinary kid on the block.
It was until i was 27 that i had the opportunity to call something my own. For years, i have been searching for the best location, concepts and ideas, i wanted something that represents me as a person, something very personal and something to celebrate the love for food and drinks.
In short, TDM is a resemblance of me, my life and my experiences. A humble neighbourhood Kitchen + Bar, serving authentic Thai cuisines and beverages while relaxing along the alfresco, looking at the time go by.
Joel is such a humble and friendly guy in my interactions with him. At 27 years old, he also has two other Thai F&B business at Orchard Towers and Bedok North Coffeeshop. He shared that his chefs are from Thailand and consulted that the headcount to hire Thai is 6 Singaporeans to hire 1 Thai.
Woohoo time to eat!
Mr Joel: ” There isn’t exactly a best dish because all of our dishes on the menu are carefully selected by me and have gone through countless food tastings before we dish it out. However, if i had to choose, it’ll be the Seafood Phad Thai for the mains and the Grilled Spiced Chicken (Gai Yang).” #BEST
Love the food and beer pairing.
After eating the Larb Moo which is sour and spicy, do you know you can drink beer to clear your palate?
Now you know. (Joel shared with me)
